Slideshow of Mile End

Sunday May 9, 2010 - So What is this project about exactly??

It's been a few days now since we began and things are already falling into place.
However - I think we should clarify a couple of things about the project...

Memoire Mile End: March Un Mille Dans Ses Chassures.
This project asks what would it be like to literally walk in someone else's shoes?
Imagine seeing a neighbourhood through the lens of a person who has loved and lived in Mile End for many years. What do they have to say about this local that is so rich in history and culture?

Is that someone you? We are looking for memories of Mile End. In addition, we are looking for the shoes of the main character in your story. These could be shoes from your youth, of an old lover, of a loved one who has passed away? We are looking for stories of "loss" but loss as it fits into the larger picture of a life itself.

Who are you? How did you end up in Mile End? What does Mile End mean to you?
What do you love and hate about it? What have you "lost" in Mile End?

Email Cathy at cathy@cathygordon.com and we'll book an appointment to meet you & record your story.

Appointments are available from May 10 to May 2oth, 2010.

Do you have a pair of shoes we can borrow?

You are needed!

MEMOIRE MILE END: MARCHER UN MILLE DANS SES CHAUSSEURS

a community art project

Do you have a pair of shoes we can borrow?

This is an open invitation to the residents and business owners of Mile End to contribute to a new arts project, MEMOIR MILE END: MARCHER UN MILLE which will take place within the streets of Mile End.

We’d like to invite you for a coffee (or tea) and hear the story behind your donation of shoes. We are looking for stories of loss (whatever that means to you) that connect to both the shoes and Mile End.

Your photograph will become part of an ongoing exhibition – an exhibition not in a gallery but in the windows of the businesses of Mile End.

The project will culminate in a series of walking tours wherein the public is invited to listen to an audio recording of your story and walk a mile in your shoes.

If you are interested in contributing please email Cathy at cathy@cathygordon.com or

call Studio 303 at 514-393-3771.
